IBM engineers introduce the computer “memory disk” – also called a “floppy disk”.

The first floppy disk is an 8-inch flexible plastic disk coated with a magnetic substance. Code is written onto and read from it. Later disks are smaller and encased in hard plastic.

Bill Bowerman’s company, Nike, later releases the Waffle Trainer.
